How to Wear It: The Military-Chic Look
August 30, 2010
Military-inspired fashion has always been hot on the runway,
but this year’s look is softer and more subtle, a flirtation between the
masculine and feminine, what we call the Military-Chic look. To get it, check out our tips and then stop by Posh to try on our favorite items.
Tips for wearing the military-chic look:
Give it the feminine touch. With structured forms and utilitarian detailing, the military look
exudes masculinity. Soften your look with feminine touches. Pair a military
jacket with a floral scarf or a skirt. Wear your skinny cargos with ballet
flats or heels. Or just add lace, as Project Runway fans know, for a winning combination.
One piece at a time. Keep it
simple by wearing just one military piece at a time to avoid a fussy, overly
masculine look. Accessorize with your favorite girly-girl items in your closet.
Try
skinny cargos. So, yeah, guys
are catching on to the skinny pant look, but the girls have really got it goin’
on. Try Posh favorite: “Paige Premium Denim ‘Layne’ Skinny Leg Cargo Pants” – a celebrity favorite, as well!

Play with
your color palette. Trademark
colors of military-inspired fashion come in earthy hues of greens, browns, and
greys. A crisp white shirt can’t go wrong with a military jacket or pants, but
you might also try shades of pink and purple – perfect complimentary colors
to the military neutral shades.
Accentuate
with military-chic accessories. The military look has gone beyond the
basics this year. Keep your eye-out for everything from military-inspired
handbags to headbands. A military-inspired belt might make a great accent to a
favorite dress.
