How to Wear It: Jeggings
August 17, 2010
(This is our first installment in our new "How to Wear It" series on essential fall fashion trends.
We have great news for one of the hottest fashions for fall: jeggings. It’s this: anyone can wear them! Jeggings are as versatile as the women who wear them are unique. Whether you’re petite or tall, curvy or straight, these tips will help you wear them with style.
Tip #1: Get acquainted: Jeggings are simply denim (or jean) leggings.
While leggings have been popular for a while now, jeggings just hit the fashion scene last fall and are now fashionable in full force. You can wear them like leggings, but since they are a heavier denim fabric (yet still with a comfortable stretch), you can also wear them like ultra-skinny jeans for a fashion-forward look.
Tip #2. Like leggings, jeggings work well with length and layers.
Tunics and shirt dresses look great with jeggings. Longer tops will cover your tummy, hips, and rear, and create a balanced look overall – loose and flowy on top, fitted and flattering on bottom. For a great fall look, pair your jeggings with a long sweater cinched at the waist with a cute belt, pull on a pair of knee-high boots, and you’re good to go on your fabulous way!
Also, think layers with jeggings. Another outfit combo might incorporate a relaxed tank, a long cardi, a scarf, and boots. Just be careful about wearing them like your relaxed jeans, especially with fitted or cropped tops.
Tip #3. Pay attention to your shoe pairing.
Pairing jeggings with the right pair of shoes is important. Ballet flats are a cute choice. Pull them off in the business casual workplace with a pair of plain pumps. With flats and heels, skip the socks, and avoid clunker styles. You might also experiment with a cute bootie, and you won’t go wrong with tall boots.
